About the Artist

Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Truett Dietz earned his BFA in drawing, painting, and printmaking from Georgia State University in 2010. After graduation, he worked as a studio assistant for the artists Joe Peragine, Scott Ingram, Radcliffe Bailey, Joe Minter, and Lonnie Holley. He spent many years an art handler — packing, transporting, and hanging artwork at major Atlanta institutions, museums, and private collections. He has also worked as a commercial artist, graphic designer, photographer, archivist, and studio manager.

Artist Statement

With my drawings, I am trying to express my thoughts and feelings about myself and the world as it exists in this present moment. I’m particularly interested in how the internet has shaped and fundamentally altered human psychology, and how those changes express themselves in our lives and patterns of behavior. The drawings seek to synthesize my sense of self with the idea of myself that formed as a result of being online. I chose my specific tarot cards for their personal thematic resonance (clarity, fulfillment, a new job, and standing your ground), and tried to expand on those ideas with the same playful sincerity that I bring to the rest of my artistic practice.
