Artist Statement
My work is about capturing scenes that take place in a social, public or environment space. I try to conceptualize cultural identities as it relates to everyday life by exploring ideas about racial and social stereotypes through theme, shape and color. I try to develop images that are part of ongoing conversations about the human experience, this creates an emotional connection by either dramatizing or romanticizing a situation.
I sometimes use media-based themes to reference how we participate and interact to welcome or unwelcome narratives, this becomes an important part in how my work develops. Color sets the structural environment by enhancing the action and mood of the characters in the artwork. This creates a dialogue within the context of the work and lets the viewer develop the story. For me art is a form of visual communication that expresses personal and public concepts, ideas, and issues. I try to structure my work with an outline of simplicity and depth. I focus heavily on drawing and composition as a way to create a formal visual conversation.
Everything is Art.
