My work is concerned with transformation. Coming from Malaysia, I have learned to adapt to a new way of life here in the United States. I exist in a liminal state living in two worlds. I have focused on the notion of the original self, outside influences, and transmutation. Working with watercolor is meaningful to me. In Chinese, we have a saying which translates roughly to “When you drink water, remember the spring.” The abstracted figures give me a chance to face my new freedom while remembering where I come from. It is found in translation.

Artist Statement

My subject matter often focuses on the concept of transformation reflecting her personal history and perspectives. Coming from Malaysia, I learned to adapt to a new way of life in the United States. I consider myself to exist in a liminal state, living in two worlds. My work reflects my focus on the notion of the original self, outside influences, and transmutation. I am a multi-disciplined artist + designer. I use different mediums to express my art and design works, such as watercolor, sequins wall, 3D die-cut objects, Interactive murals, paint on canvas, and digital media to express my concepts.
